Bacon & Onion Topping

About the Recipe

This topping goes well on almost anything! Burgers, sautéed kale, grits, mac & cheese, peas...the list goes on and on!

Ingredients

12 ounce package of bacon

2 cups diced yellow onion

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon coconut sugar

Preparation

  • Chop bacon into ½ inch to 1 inch pieces and place in a large skillet

  • Cook on medium / medium high until crispy

  • Use a slotted spoon to remove bacon

  • Reduce head to medium

  • Pour out bacon grease, leaving approximately 1 to 2 tablespoons of bacon grease in the pan

  • Add olive olive oil to the pan

  • Carefully add in the diced onions and cook on medium until they begin to soften

  • Add in the dried thyme, black pepper, apple cider vinegar, and coconut sugar

  • Continue cooking, stirring often, until onions are caramelized

  • Add back in the bacon and stir until bacon is evenly mixed with onions

  • Serve on your favorite foods... burgers, grits, sautéed kale, etc.


Note: Best if used immediately.
